Education and interdependence lead the news today. With the new school year arriving in much of the world, OneWorld has launched the latest issue of its online magazine, Perspectives. "Learning the Future" looks at global efforts to get kids into school and improve the schools they're in. Simultaneously, Save the Children has launched "Rewrite the Future," a 40-country project to provide education for children in war zones, which is being called the biggest effort of the organization's storied 85-year career. Also in the news, the 118 countries that make up the "Non-Aligned Movement" opened a summit yesterday hoping to re-establish their global influence, an Indian polio outbreak threatens to spread, and a "food mile" calculator highlights the environmental impact of buying food produced halfway across the planet. In analysis, a group of U.S. media organizations look at privatization in Iraq. And in features, we celebrate Interdependence Day and wonder if the U.S. biking trend is here to stay.
