Making the most of a short respite after days of humid, 90+ degree temperatures, nearly 100 people gathered at the NonProfit Center in downtown Boston for the July 19 Nonprofit After Work Event, sponsored by the Boston Nonprofit Network (BNN). Regional co-hosts Oxfam America, the Nonprofit Quarterly, the Nonprofit/Higher Education/Healthcare Network and Third Sector New England (TSNE) provided fun take-aways, mellow jazz, hors d’oeuvres, soft drinks, beer and wine as the crowd mingled.
Responding
to requests from participants of earlier BBN’s Nonprofit After Work
Events, the co-hosts added a short presentation on a topic of interest
to the nonprofit community just before the event’s 6 p.m. kick-off.
Jennetta Hyatt, TSNE’s recruitment manager, shared tips for both job
seekers and organizations trying to fill positions with her talk on
“Working in the Nonprofit Field.” The
evening would not have been complete without short presentations from
the co-hosting organizations and the much-anticipated raffle. Lucky
winners received great raffle prizes ranging from a year’s subscription
to Dollars and Sense
magazine from the nonprofit of the same name to a $50 American Express
gift card from Accounting Management Solutions, the corporate sponsor
of the Nonprofit/Higher Education/Health Care Network. The African Health Foundation also provided free registration to their August 26th
International Conference on AIDS Orphans and Other vulnerable children.
TSNE gave away a copy of the Executive Directors Guide, and Oxfam Though the event drew to a close, many people stayed at the NonProfit Center
beyond 8 p.m. to talk with their friends, old and new. They enjoyed the
connections that they made, whether professional or personal. It was a
successful networking event, and the best part was that even
afterwards, the night was still young. Special thanks to Jessica Rodgers of Oxfam http://oneworldus.civiblog.org/blog/LocalCommunities/Boston/Events/NetworkingEvents/July2006
Along with national co-host OneWorld U.S.,
the three regional co-hosts provided Greater Boston’s nonprofit
community with a low-key, informal opportunity to share food and fun
while getting down to the serious business of sharing information on
their organizations and projects. The event also provided those
attending with opportunities to explore potential collaboration between
their nonprofits and also between nonprofit organizations and their
business and government supporters
